Back in 1993 we first created Election Views, our own software system for automatically generating ballot typesetting. Since then, we have used Election Views to typeset the ballots for over six hundred elections in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland. Along the way we have continuously refined this system, adding support for new voting systems as they enter the market, and always adding new checks and safeguards to prevent errors.
We are constantly scouting for new technologies that can be incorporated into our work. Our proofing and production cycle is now completed almost entirely electronically – without paper – using email and our private ftp server. In short, we have evolved a formula for getting you through the election cycle as fast as possible, with the minimum of work and anxiety for you.
First, we create a computer database of candidate names, office titles, district titles and referendum questions. Then we use our software to generate electronic images from that database of all the different ballots (absentee, machine, emergency, sample, provisional, etc.). Since all the ballots come from a single data source, any changes or corrections will automatically be reflected on subsequent ballots. For example, if we change the spelling of a congressional candidate’s name on a voting machine ballot, the name will also be automatically corrected on every other voting machine ballot in that congressional district, as well as on the absentee ballot, the sample ballot, etc.
We email the proofs to you for review. This way, several rounds of changes can be created, reviewed and edited in a single day. Or, at the customer’s preference, we can deliver paper proofs by fax, courier or overnight mail.
Once we have final approval, we transfer the approved version to a wide variety of high-end imagesetters, direct-to-plate systems and electronic presses used for printing.
